As scattered reports from the Villtanian refugees who have fled the country dribble in, the world is hearing a horror-filled tale of devastation by monsters and biogeocenosis experiments summoned for war and world domination by Villtania’s leading scholar, and self-described sorcerer, Raimond. The once beautiful Villtanian countryside now runs red with the blood of its people. The United Nations have declared an international emergency and while unable to commit any of the world’s armies to this strange, supernatural conflict, they have offered a huge reward to any hot-shot mercenaries or hunters brave enough to take on theses monsters from another dimension and restore order to Villtania. Warriors from around the world, some for the sake of justice, others for money, have stood up and gathered in the Villtanian battle field. Now, a new war has begun.

So after initially releasing Guilty Gear XX# Reload on the PSP (only in Japan), ARC Systems comes back to the portable stomping grounds with Guilty Gear Judgement. And the results are amazing.

Guilty Gear Judgement on the PSP is basically two games in one.

You have Guilty Gear Judgement, which basically is a 2D sidescrolling brawling game in the same style as Final Fight and Sengoku Densyo 2001. Judgement’s main draw is the Story Mode, which is extremely entertaining and well written. Besides the engaging Story Mode, you also have Survival Mode. Judgement encourages some serious replay value with unlockable characters. GG Judgement’s game engine is a bit more refined and sophisticated than your average sidescrolling action game and it makes for fantastic action. You even have the option of having a second player join you for wireless combat against the hordes of CPU enemies. Like traditional sidescrolling beat’em ups, the areas are broken down into Stages.

Guilty Gear X2 Reload is your standard Guilty Gear gameplay down to the last letter. I found it to be really entertaining and fun to play. The seasoned Guilty Gear fan should not be disappointed.

The loading time is minimal and bearable in both games, maximum time about five seconds in Judgement and hardly noticeable in GGX2 Reload.

The graphics are absolutely superb in my honest opinion. I can’t say they are 100% Arcade accurate and that every last frame is intact, but from what I see the colors are extremely vibrant, the characters have an impeccable amount of detail, and the animation is smooth.

The Guilty Gear series always favored rock and metal for it’s soundtrack (I personally prefer techno) but the music is fine as well. The sound effects in both games are absolutely clear and the voice samples have exceptional clarity.

The bottom line is if you are a PSP owner and you remotely like the Guilty Gear games you should get these FREE DOWNLOAD offer immediately. Guilty Gear Judgement is quite a value, considering that you are getting 2 high quality games in one. Judgement is an excellent sidescrolling brawler that mixes old school game mechanics with sophisticated innovations and a great Story Mode with lots of unlockable content. GGX2 Reload should be pleasing to 2D fans of fighting games and is extremely fun. NOt only that in both games the options are customizable and very flexible. You even have the choice of using the digital Directional pad or Analog stick to see which suits your needs.

Serious 2D fighting really doesn’t get any better than this. Old school sidescrolling beat’em up action in GG Judgement + Guilty Gear X2 Reload + beautiful vibrant 2D graphics = one great purchase for PSP owners and Guilty Gear fans.
