                                                                                                                                                           Get ready for the next installment in the Twisted Metal car combat series. Twisted Metal: Head-On puts you behind the wheel of one of 14 destructive vehicles, each equipped with machine guns, turbo boost, and a unique special attack. Once you select a vehicle, you can take out your road rage on opponents in 12 wild arenas. The game also offers multiplayer modes for up to eight players through a wireless connection.

If you have ever played a Twisted Metal game, you know what to expect in Twisted Metal: Head-On for the PSP. Sony has stuck with the winning formula that has made the series a success. After all, why fix something that isn’t broken?

For those of you who don’t know, Twisted Metal: Head-On is a car combat game featuring over the top characters that you can’t help but love. There over fifteen characters in the game, some who will need to be unlocked in order to access them. While the story mode will only take you around thirty minutes to complete, each character has their own storyline which will keep you coming back for more after you have initially beaten the game. Every character has their own car, and each car has its own attributes, such as handling and speed, along with a unique special move.

In the game, you are placed into an arena with several opponents. Your goal is to be the last car standing. Along with the above mentioned special move, each vehicle is equipped with a machine gun that can be fired using the right shoulder button. Weapon pickups are placed throughout each arena. They include napalm, mines, and missiles, along with health packs.

Twisted Metal: Head-On does include wireless peer-to-peer multiplayer for up to six players, and a two player co-op mode. You can also take the game online through an access point to challenge opponents around the globe. Unfortunately I have not been able to try either multiplayer method myself, but I have read several players have had issues playing through access points. Hopefully these will be cleared up.

There are several game modes to choose aside from they story mode. They include Death Match (kill all players), Last Man Standing (be the last player alive), Fox Hunt (a player is marked as the fox with a yellow icon and must be hunted by all other players; once killed a new player will become the fox), Collector (collect randomly placed artifacts throughout a level), Team Death Match (kill all players on the opposing team), Team Last Man (be the last team with players alive), Team Fox Hunt 1 (same as Fox Hunt except with a team), Team Fox Hunt 2 (each team has one fox) and Team Collector (similar to Collector except played on a team). Playing each mode should keep you busy for quite some time.

Both the visuals and sound in Twisted Metal: Head-On are very impressive. Occasionally there will be some slowdown in the game, but that is expected with so much action taking place on the screen. Vehicle models and damage details looks great, as do weapon effects. The music consists mainly of rock and metal tracks, and fits the game nicely.

If you’re a fan of the Twisted Metal series, you’ll love Twisted Metal: Head-On. If you’re hoping for something different than the previous games, you’re going to be disappointed. Still, Twisted Metal: Head-On is a great game, and a nice addition to any PSP collection
